From 2002 to 2010, Oswald was a member and/or chaired various Committees of Council including Finance, Recreation and Public Works. He also chaired the race Relations Committee and led various initiatives such as the Ban on One Use Plastic Bag and implementation of the new garbage pickup system that resulted in enclosures for commercial garbage bins and mechanized garbage pickup that resulted in over a 30% increase in recycling.
After becoming a father in 2010, Oswald stepped back from municipal politics for the next 14 years, returning in a by-election in October of 2024. After seeing the decrease in community safety, Oswald worked with the existing Administration and Mayor and Council to create the newly formed Safety Committee as all other Committees of Council was wound down by the previous Council. He became the Chair of the Safety Committee in 2025. The Committee to date has recommended the increase in CSOs, the updating of the Community Wellness and Safety Plan, as the previous plan expired in 2024, and the creation and approval of an agreement between MKO and the City that will help guide the operations of the Wellbriety Centre.
