The North, and the City of Thompson, just experienced probably one of the worst blizzards for more than 40 years. By the time this letter is read, the storm would have been almost a week behind us and all of the streets and most everyone’s driveway would be cleared out. I was one of the individuals who was driving around on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon (I hunkered down like most everyone else on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning) and was amazed at the speed of our city staff and contractors in clearing out the primary roads of the city, even if it was only one lane at times, to allow for traffic. I recognize that not all streets were cleared and there were individuals who got stuck but the city and its staff and contractors should be congratulated on what I felt was a job well done. I would also like to recognize my fellow Thompsonites who, on many occasions, stopped to help motorists that got stuck. It really shows what we Thompsonites are made of in times of difficulty.
